Emergency Policy

It is absolutely necessary that I be able to reach someone at all times in case of an emergency.  In a true emergency provider will call 911 & notify parent of any action taken.

Illness Policy

I must comply with health department guidelines and also to prevent the spread of illness to others the following will be strictly adhered to...   Clark County Health Regulations   www.cchd.org

Your child must be FEVER-FREE for 24 hours without the use of fever reducers before returning to daycare.  I an unable to care for children who are infectious (fever, vomiting, rash, severe cough, diarrhea, thick yellow or green runny nose)  or for children who's illness care exceeds my capabilities in a normal daycare setting.  Children will be sent home with a fever of 100F or more and will NOT be allowed into daycare the next day.  If an antibiotic has been prescribed, they must use it for at least 24 hours before returning to daycare.  I am only permitted to administer prescription medications, and over the counter medications with a PHYSICIAN'S WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS.  A MEDICATION RELEASE FORM is required for all medications, so please allow enough time to fill one out when dropping off your child with any medication.  This form can be obtained on this web-site.

Outings & Transportation Policy

Provider may transport the child(ren) when necessary.  A trip permission slip will be required to be kept in the child's file.  As a general rule we do not take random trips.  Children will be transported only when necessary and parents will be notified of such an instance if at all possible before hand.

Clothing

Please send your children dressed appropriately for the weather.  We do go outdoors regularly and if your child has no shoes or jacket when needed, they will not be able to go outside.  Also at least one extra set of weather-appropriate clothing including sox 7 underwear must be kept in your child's cubby at all times.  Disposable diapers can be brought a bag at a time and when your child get's low, I will notify you to bring more.

Potty Training

In the years that I have been helping parents to potty train their children, I have come up with a few guidelines in helping to prepare your child for potty training.

When your child is ready, we must also be ready.  Many children are ready as early as 18 months.  It is called "training" because we must teach them.  It is not automatic.  We must be consistent & patient.  When the decision is made to begin the potty training process, please remember to send the needed clothing to daycare.  We will need several pairs of thick cloth training pants marked with your child's name.  These enable us to know when your child has had the inevitable "accident" and attend to it immediately.  NO PULL UPS PLEASE!!  These are diapers without the tapes and slow the progress of potty training and confuse the child.  Pull-ups may be used for nap time only.  Please let me know your terminology.  We typically use pee-pee & pooh-pooh, big girl panties, & big boy underwear.  Please send your child in easy access clothing.  something they can learn to pull up and down by themselves.  Proper hand washing will be taught and followed.

Meal Policy

I provide all meals & snacks that children are in attendance for.

BREAKFAST  is usually over by 8:00 am.  If your child arrives after that time, please give them a proper breakfast at home.  Breakfast will consist of milk, a fruit, a grain, and a protein as an option.

LUNCH is served between 11:00 am and 11:30 am.  These children are here early and are ready for lunch by then.  Lunch will consist of milk, a protein, and two vegetables, or a fruit & a vegetable and a grain.

SNACK is served between 2:00 & 3:30 depending upon when your child is here & up from nap.  snack will consist of two of the food groups, no junk food such as Twinkies, or cup cakes.  Cup cakes will be allowed only for birthday celebrations.  Snack will be served with 100% juice or milk, no kool ade or sports drinks.

DRINKS  Please do not send your child with sippy cups full of anything.  Children will have 4 to 6 oz per day of 100% juice and milk with meals.  The rest of the day they will drink water only.  Water should be the child's primary source of hydration.

BRINGING YOUR OWN FOOD is not allowed unless it is brought for a special occasion such as a birthday celebration and there is enough for everybody.  The only exception to that is if your child cannot have milk, then you may bring soy milk or an alternative and I will serve it when the other children have their milk.  Children are served well balanced meals and snacks and everybody eats the same thing unless there is a food allergy involved.  When children come in the morning with pop tarts, cookies, and yes even ding dongs, it is not only unfair to your child, it is unfair to the other children who are eating nutritious food, and it is not fair to me to load them up with sugar at the beginning of our day.

HOW MEAL TIMES ARE HANDLED We are all at the table together.  I am usually feeding infants or assisting younger children while the more self sufficient are eating.  We discuss the colors in the food and talk about what food group each food is in.  I encourage self feeding as much and as early as possible even if it is messy.  The only time I leave the room while the children are eating is to take a dish to the kitchen or get someone a second helping if they ask for it.  children can have as much as they want during meal times.  They must however finish everything on their plate to get a second helping of anything.  Children are encouraged to eat everything or at least try everything that is served to them but they are not forced to eat anything.  They will not however get something different if they refuse to eat what is served.  This encourages finicky eating habits and hinders them in acquiring tastes for new things.  Once or twice a week we will have chocolate milk in place of milk at lunch or snack time.

ABSOLUTELY NO GUM will be allowed here.  If your child chews gum, please make sure it has been disposed of properly before coming to daycare and do not let them bring it in their pockets.  If I find it, it will be disposed of.

INFANT FEEDING You must supply formula or breast milk however I will supply cereal, and jar food when your child is ready.  Infants under the age of 4 months old are fed on demand.  In order to be supportive of those who wish to breast fed as long as possible you are welcome to stop by and breast feed your baby.  Please try to let me know approximately what time so I can adjust the feeding schedule accordingly.  Also let me know if you are not coming as scheduled so we don't have a hungry baby on our hands.  At 4 months infants are usually started on cereal and vegetables working through the vegetables up to the fruits one at a time.  They will get cereal & formula or breast milk at breakfast, cereal and either a fruit or vegetable at lunch with formula or breast milk, formula or breast milk in the afternoon, and if they are her for dinner, they will get the same as lunch.  When they are about 8 months old, fruits will be added at breakfast, infant meats will be added at lunch & dinner and a grain and 100% juice will be added at snack.

Policy on Bringing Toys

Please do NOT allow your child to bring toys from home.  I have found it only causes problems, and they are sometimes hard to keep track of and get lost or destroyed.  some have small parts that are not safe for younger children.  Security items are allowed such as a favorite stuffed animal or small blanket.  These items are for nap time and will be kept in the child's cubby during the rest of the day.

Discipline

Depending on the situation, verbal guidance, re-direction, or time out (one minute per year of age) will be used.  I have a zero tolerance biting policy.  If your child bites more than two times, it will result in immediate termination of our contract.

Parking

Please do not block my mail box when picking up your child in the afternoon.  My mail will not be delivered if the mailbox is blocked.  There is no parking on the other side of the street and signs are posted so please park facing east in front of my residence and continue on heading east and around the block when leaving.  NO U-TURNS in front of my residence please.  I have had complaints from the neighbors.

Pick Up & Drop Off Procedure

Please bring your child all the way into the house.  Do not just drop your child in front of the house & leave.  They must be signed in & out daily.  Also please do not show up to pick up your child under the influence of alcohol.  Although legally I must allow you to take your child, if it does happen, proper authorities will be notified, so please, please do not put me in that position.

Termination Procedure

There is a two week trial period during which either parent/legal guardian or provider may terminate without notice. No money will be refunded during this trial period if care is terminated by parent or guardian.  After this two week trial period, the contract may only be terminated by either party giving two weeks written notice in advance of the last day the child is to be cared for, or immediate termination by provider for failure to abide by written policies.  Unless provider terminates immediately as mentioned above, payment by parent/guardian is due for the notice period whether or not the child is brought to the provider for care during those two weeks.  These two weeks must be paid for regardless of the reason for termination.  Failure by the provider to enforce one or more of the terms of the contract or written policies does NOT waive the right of the provider to enforce any other written policies or terms of the contract.  Failure of Parent/guardian to pay for the two week notice period will result in additional fees including but not limited to - late fees at the rate of $5.00 per day until all fees are paid, collection cost, court costs, cost of certified mail, and providers time off work to enforce the terms of this portion of the contract.  All accounts not paid in full at the time of termination are subject to collections and/or court action.  This portion of the contract will be strictly enforced.

By signing this, I acknowledge that I have read & received a copy of the written policies of Diana's Lil' Darlings, and agree to abide by them.
